Web Development Workshop 2023
The Web Development Workshop, held on 12 and 13 September 2023, at the Computer Center, was an enriching and enlightening session aimed at imparting essential skills required in the front-end development of a webpage. The workshop was organized by the ACM Student Chapter with the strategic aim of empowering students with the essential skills needed to craft interactive and compelling web pages.
Day 1 of this workshop commenced promptly at 2:00 pm. The event kicked off with Mr. Manish Patil providing a comprehensive introduction to HTML. He covered the basics of HTML, explaining its role in web development and its essential syntax. He continued by delving into various HTMI, tags, such as paragraph tags, heading tags, span tags, anchor tags, and image tags. He elucidated the purpose and functionality of each tag, highlighting their significance in structuring web content. The interactive nature of the event was evident as participants were encouraged to implement the HTML tags themselves. This hands-on approach helped solidify the concepts learned. Students also had the opportunity to create tables, gaining valuable skills for organizing data on web pages
Ms. Nicole Saldanha then introduced participants to Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). She explained how CSS is used to enhance the visual appeal of websites, and covered basic styling concepts. Additionally, she taught attendees how to implement features like hover effects, making websites more interactive and visually appealing. The event concluded with Ms. Nicole guiding participants in creating a "Travel package" webpage. This practical exercise allowed attendees to apply their newly acquired HTML and CSS knowledge to create a functional and visually appealing webpage. Thus Day 1 of the web development workshop was concluded by 5:00p.m.
The second day of the web development workshop commenced at 2:00 pm. To ensure a comprehensive understanding, the topics covered during the preceding session were reviewed briefly. Ms. Siddhi Gadge then proceeded to the JavaScript session aiming to equip participants with a foundational understanding of JavaScript programming, enabling them to add interactivity and functionality to web applications and providing a solid basis for further exploration and development in this versatile language. She taught the participants to create a registration form, that requires a user's name and a password. It uses JavaScript to ensure that the password and the re-entered password match before allowing the form submission. If the passwords do not match, it displays an alert message
The participants were engaged in building a travel package website from scratch. They were guided through the process of creating interactive elements like navigation menus, image sliders, and booking forms using JavaScript. Ms. Siddhi then provided a step-by-step guide on deploying the developed website using GitHub Participants learned how to create a repository, push their code, and host the website online, making it accessible to a global audience
The event concluded with participants leaving with a solid understanding of web development fundamentals using the languages HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, the ability to create their own websites, and the confidence to host them online, setting them on a path to further explore the exciting world of web development.
