FE Orientation 2024

On 20th March 2024, ACM-DBIT conducted an orientation program for all the first-year engineering students at Mondini Hall from 4 pm to 5 pm. The objective of this event was to familiarize the FEs with the workings of ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) and its role in enhancing their engineering journey.

The orientation kicked off with a warm welcome from Susanne (Asst. Secretary) and Erica (Asst. Admin Head), setting the tone for an insightful session. Following the introduction, Erica introduced Leander Braganza(Chairperson), who began the orientation session. Leander commenced by delving into the rich history of ACM at DBIT, shedding light on its evolution and the pivotal role it plays in facilitating student growth. Leander's address focused on ACM's commitment to student welfare, evident through a range of opportunities from internships to workshops. This was particularly seen as ACM prides itself on catering to the dynamic nature of engineering, ensuring students are equipped with the necessary skills to thrive in a rapidly evolving industry.

The interactive segment of the orientation saw attendees engaging in a lively game of Pictionary, organized by Kenneth (Asst. Sponsorship Head), Tanisha (Asst. Publicity Head), Ria (Asst. PR Head), and Rucha (Asst. Social-media Head). This served as a refreshing break.

Yashas Khot then took to the stage to talk about ACM-DBIT's flagship event, Teknack. With a focus on empowering students. Teknack serves as a platform for honing creative and technical skills, notably through the development of mobile games using the Unity Engine. He spoke about how ACM will guide them throughout the journey from ideation to release of the game. The momentum of engagement continued as Erica and Susanne conducted a captivating Q&A session, wherein participants competed for exciting prizes by showcasing their knowledge of ACM and fun riddles.

After the Q&A session, Joshua, the vice chairperson, spoke about his journey within ACM, highlighting the transformative impact it had on his confidence, public speaking abilities, and teamwork ethos. His testimonial emphasized the invaluable experiences and growth opportunities afforded by ACM membership. As the event ended, attendees eagerly participated in the final game, "Grab it," wherein volunteers brought in miscellaneous objects from the audience. This game proved to be extremely successful among the audience.

The ACM-DBIT orientation provided a boost of motivation and empowerment for the new engineering students. The enthusiasm among the new engineering students to join ACM reflects their cagerness to contribute to this vibrant community.
