Flutter Workshop 2024

Flutter Workshop 2024

A two-day Flutter workshop, held on the 26 and 27 of February 2024 at the BMS Seminar Hall, saw enthusiastic participation from budding developers keen on mastering mobile app development. It was organized by the ACM student chapter of DBIT and led by Siddhesh Madkaikar and Alston Fernandes, both final-year Computer Engineering students, the workshop aimed to introduce participants to the basics of Flutter, Google's Ul toolkit for building natively compiled applications for mobile, web, and desktop from a single codebase. The workshop began with Manish Patil setting the stage, outlining the workshop's objectives, and introducing the speakers. Siddhesh Madkaikar kickstarted the session, engaging participants in a discussion about their understanding of Flutter and its potential applications. With an interactive approach, Siddhesh then transitioned into explaining Dart, the programming language used in Flutter, by demonstrating various commands and encouraging participants to try out DartPad-online.

Covering the essentials of programming, Siddhesh explained concepts like print statements, conditional statements, loops, and object-oriented programming in a simplified manner. He also shared handy shortcuts and tips to aid participants in their coding endeavours. Following an engaging morning session, participants were granted a lunch break to refresh their minds and discuss the concepts taught with fellow participants

Post-lunch, Alston Fernandes guided participants through the realm of widgets in Flutter. Widgets, the fundamental building blocks of Flutter applications, represent Ul elements. Alston provided an overview of different types of widgets and their functionalities, enabling participants to grasp the basics of Ul development in Flutter. At the end of the first day, the speakers told the participants they would work on building a payments app to apply what they learned. This announcement motivated everyone to get hands-on. As the day wrapped up, Manish Patil said goodbye, promising an even more exciting session the next day.

On the second day, the workshop shifted its focus towards practical implementation. Commencing at 10:00 AM, participants delved into the development of a money payments app, gaining hands-on experience in implementing various functionalities using Flutter. This practical approach allowed participants to reinforce their understanding of Flutter's concepts and methodologies.

As the workshop drew to a close, Manish Patil extended gratitude to the organizers, speakers, and participants for their active involvement and contributions, acknowledging their role in making the workshop a success.

The Flutter workshop served as a platform for participants to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical application, equipping them with valuable skills in mobile application development. With its interactive sessions and practical exercises, the workshop provided attendees with a solid foundation in Flutter development, empowering them to embark on their journey in the ever- evolving field of mobile app development.
