Git and Github workshop 2023

The ACM-DBIT Student Chapter hosted an hands on workshop on 'Git and GitHub on the 3rd of August 2023, from 11am to 1pm The event was held in the Computer Center at DBIT. The primary objective of this workshop was to describe to the students what Git and GitHub are, and how they operate. Students from TE served as guides to the attendees from across the Department. Participants were encouraged to bring their laptops to participate in workshop activities.

Mr. Yashas Khot, the Technical Head of ACM, opened the session by outlining what Git and GitHub were and their significance in the industry, as well as the significance of version control and its role in software development The TE mentors then walked the students through the process of installing Git step by step while also assisting them with their queries. The pupils were also shown how to set up a GitHub account if they didn't already have one. They were then taught the fundamentals of git by Mr. Aarol D'Souza, the Secretary of ACM, and Mr. Omesh Barhate, who assisted them in testing the commands such as initializing a repository, making changes and committing those changes that they had learned with the assistance of their mentors. As the workshop proceeded, the students were introduced to concepts such as initializing and adding repositories, collaborative development through pull and push requests, etc. During the class, students were given a Git cheat sheet to refer to

Following the session, students were given the opportunity to utilize and run the platform by creating their own repository. Attendees were given a certificate at the end of the session, as well as additional resources to use in the future and a feedback form to fill out.
